Fact Sheet: YSR hits two birds at one shot

After promulgating the ordinance to prevent violent attacks on doctors and damage to the hospitals, Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy has decided to go tough with the junior doctors, who continue to be on strike demanding arrest of the MIM MLAs.

The Chief Minister, who had no other option but to go soft on the Majlis party in the interest of the Congress party, served a stern warning on the striking doctors stating that the government would invoke Essential Services Maintenance Act against the, if they do not join duties by Wednesday. YSR's decision followed a firm stand taken by the State High Court against the doctors.

While it appeared that the government was favouring the junior doctors, the Chief Minister's warning was a sort of slap on the face of the Opposition parties who are trying to gain mileage by supporting the doctors. YSR knows that his tough stand against the doctors would get him appreciation from people, especially the poorer sections, who regularly go to the government hospitals. And that is hitting two birds at one shot!
